MAGAZINE
Welcome to the website of Sardines magazine, the first-ever professionally produced publication exclusively for the amateur theatre community across Greater London and its surrounding areas.
According ‘Our Creative Talent’ - the government’s recent 92-page report into England’s amateur and voluntary arts sector London contains around 650 non-professional theatrical societies boasting a total of 229,000 members and a collective annual turnover of almost £15m.
Whether your group performs in the local scout hut, the church hall, a dedicated fringe venue or its own theatre premises, all societies now form part of London’s new Sardines family.
Sardines is put together and run by an experienced group of publishing professionals that - and maybe more importantly - are also dedicated amateur theatre practitioners of all ages.
On the right-hand side you’ll see past issues of Sardines where you can flip through the pages in fine detail and really get the feel of the magazine. However, as we’re sure you’ll agree, there’s nothing like having the real thing to read, and so there is also the opportunity to subscribe as well as order back issues of Sardines to collect.

goalS
The purpose of Sardines is a straightforward one... to offer this vibrant community an umbrella network in which societies may interact, communicate and support one other; to provide a central point of contact for societies and their audiences alike to access activity and membership details as well as information on productions across London;
to bring a fresh, modern, informative and entertaining approach to this very British institution that is ‘amateur performance’ to society members as well as arousing the curiosity of future potential members.

WEBSITE
Sardines magazine and its website both provide details of hundreds of societies across London and, by accessing the website, groups may easily add or amend information on profiles and future productions.
It’s all free, so if you are part of an amateur (or non-professional) society then please make sure:
1. Your details are included in our directory ...here
2. All your future productions are listed on the Show Guide ...here
3. Registered societies (also free to do) are not only given their own exclusive enhanced profile, but can also place unlimited classified listings into the LIVE BLOG. This is the area of the website where groups can buy, sell, beg, borrow or shamelessly blag to, and from, societies London over thirteen categories... from props and costumes to equipment and... even actors!
