Durham Musical Theatre Company stages the much loved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “CAROUSEL” at the GALA Theatre, Durham, from Tuesday 21st – Saturday 25th March 2017. Evening performances are at 7.00 pm, with Wednesday & Saturday matinées at 2.00 pm.
DMTC follows on from their recent award-winning productions of “Sunset Boulevard” and “The Best of British Musicals” with the sensational musical that is “Carousel”. Voted “Best Musical of the 20th Century” by Time Magazine, this timeless classic features a breath-taking score with many hit songs including “If I Loved You”, “June is Bustin’ Out All Over”, “Soliloquy”, “When the Children Are Asleep” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. This score is studded with some of the most powerful, uplifting and moving music ever composed for the stage, and Richard Rodgers regarded it as his finest achievement. Dazzling lights, fabulous songs, great dancing, charming children and a dramatic, uplifting story are all a part of this great new production. When Billy Bigelow (Graeme Walton) and Julie Jordan (Katy Walton) meet and fall in love, little do they realise that Billy’s rebellious ways will result in tragedy. Billy is given a chance to make good, but is it too little too late, or will a lucky star save him and the ones he loves?
DMTC’s production of “Carousel” will mark the 50th anniversary of Fred Wharton’s productions for DMTC. “Carousel” is a show that both he and DMTC have never staged before. We want to make this a special, spectacular way of saying a huge THANK YOU to him for all he has done for us and the people of Durham over these past 50 years. We hope you will want to join in this celebratory event with us.
