SPRING 2008
order Sardines here
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you back to Sardines, now in its second issue - where we focus on aspects of theatre training.
We have had a wonderful response from all of our readers, who are delighted to have a new magazine for the amateur theatre community.
Keep your letters and emails flooding in; we love to hear from you, and don't forget to check out our website for all the latest news and
reviews.
Theatre training is very close to my heart and I run a youth group at my local amateur theatre. I believe the training and involvement of young
people in the performing arts helps keep our society alive, as Alastair Pearce, Principal of Rose Bruford College told me: “One of the key signs of a civilised society is its attitude towards the arts and its readiness to introduce people to what can be utterly life changing and life enhancing. Theatre, just like music or dance or any of the other arts, can do more than simply entertain, it can change people’s lives, allowing them to grow and to view themselves and the world in different ways.
The performing arts or the arts in general are fundamental signs of a healthy society, because that’s a society that’s thinking and reflecting about itself, growing mentally and
spiritually. A civilisation can’t call itself a civilisation, I think, unless it has a vibrant artistic community. The arts must be able to flourish, and therefore must be available.”
Fine words indeed, enjoy Sardines.
