YOUR NEWS – Garden Suburb Theatre’s Isle of Zoom Raises £719

By Francis Beckett

In our previous issue, Sardines highlighted several initiatives by North London’s Garden Suburb Theatre. One was the society’s Isle of Zoom fundraising event.
Around this time of year, the actors and stage crew of the amateur drama group would normally be taking the best of their shows to the Isle of Man festival which has become a regular fixture in its diary.
However, since that wasn’t possible this year, GST created its own festival and called it Isle of Zoom.
Organisers Ros and Michael Berg sent out a call to GST members for monologues, duologues, sketches and songs. Then they put the result into two Zoom evenings in April for members only. There was no charge, but instead audience members were invited to make donations to the North London Hospice.
The result was that GST chair Miriam Clark has just sent the hospice a cheque for £719.
With more than twenty segments, each between three and ten minutes long, and featuring around forty GST members, of all ages, over both evenings, “This was a great way to get something creative and positive out of the lockdown, and to raise money for an excellent cause,” the society’s chair told Sardines.
