SCDA Playwriting competition
by Paul Johnson
The Scottish Community Drama Association’s (SCDA) annual playwriting competition, Play on Words, is open to members and non-members alike and has been running now for twenty years.
The competition is for new plays from playwrights based in Scotland and entries should fit into one of two categories: an open category for playwrights of any age or a young playwright’s category for those under 30 years of age.
The winning playwrights from each category will be selected this summer. The developed scripts of the two winning plays will then have a performance or rehearsed reading in the autumn. They will also receive offers of publication from Cressrelles Publications. Deadline: 31 March.
Entries must have a running length of at least twenty and not more than fifty-five minutes, and when performed must have at least two speaking roles.
