It is essential for amateurs to see as many professional productions as possible, and panto is no exception. The genre may look like chaos, but nearly everything in a professional panto has been heavily rehearsed. After watching a myriad of (pro & amateur) pantos this year, the important things to take onboard are: plenty of pace & attack, no in-jokes, a funny and relevant script, and an MD who is as sharp as a button.
