Amdram struggling
Report ContentSo, four productions lost and pantomime very doubtful. We are lucky in that we had some cash in the bank but the church hall we use, and therefore the church, have had no income for six months. We feel obligated to make our regular contribution so next year will be tough. We obviously feel the pain of those groups out there who are less well off than us.Â
We might be able to sort some type of social distances on stage but we certainly can’t do it for the audience, and when will they be prepared to return anyway?Â

Exactly!
We thought that social distancing wouldn’t be a ‘goer’ and, despite all the professional PR out there which could lead one to believe the opposite, it seems that the vast majority of amateur companies/societies out there have no intention of reopening while social distancing is a requirement.
That’s obviously why every professional panto production has thrown the towel in.
With furlough ending next month too, things are going to become extremely serious. I just hope that groups will – somehow – be able to hang on.
Our church hall isn’t even open yet and we are proposing to defer our AGM from October to February. We are waiting to hear when we might have access, just for a chat! We have an external production on the books for late March, a murder mystery evening, but that won’t go ahead unless all the church halls are open again, and without social distancing. It’s very dispiriting and I fear it will be a long time before we all get back together again. Doesn’t do much for one’s mental health to be deprived of our weekly bout of fun… Read more »
