Fiddler on the Roof Jr

This was quite a contrast with their previous productions and certainly a challenge in character and story line development for the young cast. However they rose to the occasion and enhanced the talent previously demonstrated with quite mature performances. Christine had obviously prepared the cast well to ensure a good understanding of the background and the many individual characters within the story. Likewise Ruth had prepared the musical side well as demonstrated by the musical prowess shown on stage. There were lovely character and vocal performances from Sam Chell and Alysha Gomes as Tevye and Golde, setting the mood just right. The daughters demonstrated their individuality very well with Emily Oakden, Katie Lawson and Jessica Bridge providing a fine rendering of “Matchmaker”. Elle Walker (Yente), Ryan Barber (Motel), Kris Cunningham (Perchic) all developed their characters well showing a good understanding of the parts. The remaining cast and ensemble provided good support throughout with many little cameo characters. Plenty of talent on show with the dancing which was very well choreographed in keeping with the period. Great costumes, a good setting and fine lighting all helped the atmosphere. This certainly demonstrated the emerging talent which will help to ensure a future for the theatre. Well done.
