Who needs Weight Watchers, certainly not this Society based on the amount of energy and enthusiasm expanded by the performers in this production. Chrissie and Gemma made an excellent job of organising and controlling the almost endless movement, often with a stage full of dancers. It did seem effortless blending, but I am sure it was not. Lizzie controlled the musical aspects very well, achieving nice contrasts and very good music from stage and pit. Adam Richmond and Louise O’Boyle were outstanding as Joe and Sarah dramatically and vocally and they were certainly helped with great performances from Mark Birch and Laurie Trott as Joe’s Dad and Kath. Andy Honman, Kris Cunningham, Jane Maltby and Gemma Blake provided super support as Emmo, Lewis, Billie and Angie, indeed all on stage played their part in full. The dancing was excellent in conception and performance. The costumes were very good, fitting the period well and the single set was well used and all that was required. The backstage and technical aspects were all great, especially the very effective back projection. Apart from the energy and enthusiasm mentioned earlier it was also obvious that the cast enjoyed themselves and this was certainly transmitted to the audience. Not sure about the cast but I was certainly exhausted at the final curtain!
