Cheryl Cole in Willington panto? Oh yes she is! ANOTHER day, another dolled up dame with pink dress , over-the-top bleach blonde wig and multicoloured eyelashes.
That’s right. It’s not panto season but The Willington Players brought some seasonal cheer back to South Derbyshire. In true style, all trademarks of the traditional fairytale were thrown off the stage at Willington Village Hall, and instead Postman Pat and the elaborately dressed Doctor Who popped into panto land in an effort to end the curse of Sleeping Beauty (or Cheryl Cole, as her father is Old King Cole, of course).
Cheryl and Prince ‘Harry’ Charming meet again after spending many years apart and are instantly attracted, despite the rather dubiouslooking Queen Gaga’s interventions.
Constantly being interrupted by the horrible Fate – sister of fairy godmother Destiny – and her helpers, the menacing Catcher, the Catcher’s mate and Bill, the characters attempt a daring rescue.
This comes after Postman Pat frightens his cat, pulls muscles in his back, and the King offers a never-ending amount of cheesy nibbles.
The sold-out show even had time for audience participation, with children adding grisly ingredients to a mixture to ensure the Tardis took them back in time to rescue Cheryl, who stole the show with a rather impressive Geordie accent.
Mixed with the groovy dance moves and glow-inthe–dark fireflies from ‘Adversity’, the show provided non-stop laughter.
