For ages 2+ the sell-out success of Bromley’s Churchill Theatre Creative Learning department in conjunction with Quarter Too Ensemble theatre company is a joy to behold. Very much aimed at giving the younger end of the market their first taste of live performance, this intimate and immersive production ticks all the boxes, captivating the wide-eyed onlookers from the moment they walk in, through the shoemakers handing out juice and a gingerbread man to everyone, right up to the very end where we meet the tiny elves.
Mini Sardines, who is now aged four, has admittedly been to many full-blown theatre shows (lucky fellow) but he was enraptured throughout the entire 50-minute performance – and he couldn’t believe he even got a snack too!
Performed by a sensitive all-female duo as the shoemakers, the dedication to making sure the early years audience is brought right into the experience is very well done with each ‘relaxed’ performance delivered in a way to put both parents and children at ease.
It’s so important to bring the bedtime fairy tales every child will be told nightly to life in such a way to let their imaginations run wild but in a safe environment and productions such as this go a long way to giving children the confidence to sit and watch live theatre.
As mentioned this run, which ends on Friday, 22nd December is now sold out but keep your eyes open for more events coming up:
