Considering the short timescale of 8 weeks from auditions to going on stage this was a tremendous achievement by the cast and production team. Carol certainly inspired the cast to develop their roles be it principal or chorus and must take credit for such a successful outcome. Grant had the difficult task of getting the cast to cope with a recorded orchestral background, a great lesson in listening to the accompaniment and successfully accomplished. There was talent in depth on stage with great character development throughout, both principals and chorus. Kris Cunningham and Georgie Holmes, Frederick and Mabel, put in a lovely performance and worked well together. Tom Hopcroft was very good as the Pirate King as was Sam Chell as the Major-General with a good patter song. There was a super performance from Laura Allen as Ruth, very accomplished in all aspects. The chorus provided full support especially the daughters and the “Chavs” in particular. The choreography was great and well delivered and good costumes and props helped in the presentation. A simple set was all that was required and this was well lit throughout. A great piece of entertainment, with the depth of preparation and plenty of enthusiasm showing through in the end result.
