OVO’s autumn season at The Maltings Theatre, St Albans, leads with brand new productions of BEGINNING and MIDDLE by the critically acclaimed British dramatist and screenwriter, David Eldridge.  Directed by OVO’s award winning Artistic Director Adam Nichols, this will be the first new production of MIDDLE since the play made its debut at the National Theatre in May.

Both plays will feature the same two actors: Emma Wright and Mat Betteridge. And, in a unique offering to audiences, BEGINNING and MIDDLE are being presented back-to-back on the same night as a Saturday special on October 8 & 15 October.

Says Adam Nichols: “I’m honoured that David Eldridge has granted us the opportunity to give his wonderful plays their first outings following original runs at the National Theatre.  We’ll be presenting Beginning and Middle for the first time in rep with the same two actors in both.  The two plays will be performed back-to-back on October 8 and 15 which gives audiences chance to really immerse themselves in David’s absorbing view of modern relationships and marriage.”

Every story starts somewhere.

It’s the early hours of the morning and Danny’s the last straggler at Laura’s party. The flat’s in a mess. And so are they. One more drink?

David Eldridge’s sharp and astute two-hander takes an intimate look at the first fragile moments of risking your heart and taking a chance.

This tender and funny play is the first of two plays by David Eldridge being presented by OVO this Autumn alongside Middle.

You will be able to watch both plays back to back on Saturdays 8th and 15th October.

Contains adult language and themes.

Every relationship reaches a crossroad sometime.

As dawn breaks, Maggie is heating some milk and Gary wonders what she’s doing out of bed. Maybe it’s time for an honest conversation – but how much honesty can this marriage take?

David Eldridge brings his raw, touching and funny style to a portrait of a 21st Century marriage.

OVO is delighted to be presenting the first production of Middle following the original run at the National Theatre in the summer of 2022. Middle is the second of David Eldridge’s plays exploring love and relationships we will be presenting this Autumn, alongside Beginning.

You will be able to watch both plays back to back on Saturdays 8th and 15th October.

Contains adult language and themes.
