BANOS Musical Theatre (formerly Banstead & Nork Amateur Operatic Society) are putting on CHESS THE MUSICAL at ADRIAN MANN THEATRE, EWELL, 17-20 MAY 2023.  Last May they had full houses at the Epsom Playhouse for first stage production in the area of Kinky Boots and in December at The Green Room, Dorking Halls they staged an outstanding production of the musical The Bakers Wife.

Chess is set in the time of the Cold War Era of the early 1980s and two annual World Chess Championships in Merano, Italy, and Bangkok, Thailand. Written in 1984 by ABBA songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice, Chess tells a story of love and political intrigue.

Two great chess masters, the American (“Freddie” Trumper), and Russian (Anatoly Sergievsky), risk becoming the pawns of their governments with their lives also conflicted by a love triangle involving (Hungarian-born but raised in England) Florence Vassy. The show Includes the international hit singles ‘I Know Him So Well’ and ‘One Night In Bangkok’. Other well-known songs from the score include ‘Anthem’, ‘Heaven Help my Heart’ and ‘Pity The Child’.

The Society welcomes back Zak Negri, this time as director, and is pleased to welcome Amy Brice as musical director with Emma Bullock as choreographer. ‘CHESS’ is on at the ADRIAN MANN THEATRE, NESCOT, Ewell, 54 Reigate Rd, Epsom KT17 3DR Wednesday 17 May to Saturday 20 May 2023:  17-19 May: Evenings 7.30pm; Saturday 20 May: 1pm and 6pm.
