To those who appreciate wisteria and sunshine. Small castle on the Mediterranean, Northern Italy. To be let for the month of April. Cook, gardens, ocean view. Reply Box 11

London, 1922. Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott, two middle-class London housewives, read the same advertisement in The Times. They are frustrated and unhappy with their lives and with their husbands, but for very different reasons. Together they plan a holiday that is part adventure, part escape. Joining them to share costs are Lady Caroline Bramble – a beautiful ‘modern’, tired of the burden of London society – and Mrs Graves, an elderly widow who clings to her past. Arriving in Italy, the four women initially experience tension within their little group, however they find rejuvenation and common ground in the tranquil beauty of their surroundings, rediscovering hope & love as its magic works upon them…

Having been postponed since April 2020 we are thrilled to be finally staging this gentle and romantic comedy of manners, full of wit and pathos, based on Elizabeth von Arnim’s beloved novel of the 1920s. Set against a backdrop of a country still reeling from World War I, Enchanted April offers its characters (and audience) a necessary balm of sunshine and renewal.

Director John McSpadyen has no fewer than 18 productions under his belt, with his most recent being Henry V in 2018 – the first production staged in our Stoke Newington theatre.

The press on The Tower Theatre:

A socially distanced auditorium, a lovely warm welcome in the foyer, a small but perfectly arranged theatre and a fantastic troupe of actors… Stoke Newington is a place of dramatic wonder. A fine venue… Eddie Hewitt (Connected Cultures)

VENUE: The Tower Theatre, 16 Northwold Road, N16 7HR

6th-16th April 2022

We want our audiences to feel as safe as possible when visiting the Tower Theatre. We understand that not everyone is ready to return to full capacity houses in our venue so our performance on Tuesday 12th April will be played to socially-distanced audiences. This means we will operate with reduced capacity, spaced seating and our FoH volunteers will continue to wear face coverings. We also encourage all audience members to wear masks, unless exempt.

Performance dates, times and booking info all to be found here: https://www.towertheatre.org.uk
