The next production to grace the Lace Market main stage takes us back 2000 years, where it appears themes of love, revenge, betrayal and anguish have changed little. ‘MEDEA’ is a Greek tragedy by playwright Euripides and will be performed in a modern translation by Ben Powers. It follows the story of the relationship between Medea and Jason and how deep love and passion can easily turn to revenge and destruction when hearts are broken and betrayal is felt. But will the audience ever sympathise with Medea’s final act of revenge? Director Nik Hedges uses a mix of mask work, puppetry, physical theatre and realism to tell Medea’s story to dazzling effect.
