Amazing fun for children and adults alike

Following their sell-out production of Good Things last month, the Abbey Theatre brings you Alan Ayckbourn’s ingenious family show, Mr A’s Amazing Maze Plays.

When new neighbour, Mr Accousticus, moves into the uninhabited house opposite young Suzy and her mother, strange things start to happen: local opera singer, Mr Passerby loses his voice, the birds in the garden stop singing and even Neville, Suzy’s faithful friend, loses his bark. Suzy, along with Neville the dog, go on a quest to discover the mystery of the missing voices.

Suzy is played by Tanishia Gearing, recently seen at the Abbey Theatre Studio in the acclaimed play, Cock. Tanishia says, ‘I love being part of the double act of Suzy and Neville. I think the playfulness of their companionship is so endearing to watch.’

The show is full of suspense and intrigue as the audience are asked to guide the characters on an adventure through Mr Accousticus’ maze-like house. Tanishia says, ‘It genuinely is up to the audience where we go and how we get there, which means we need to know every possible option inside and out! It’s a lot to remember and a lot to learn but it’s all going to be worth it. The children will love it!’

Neville, the dog, is played by Sophie Harding, a leading light in Saint Albans Youth Music Theatre. Sophie says, ‘I’m having such fun playing Neville because he really is such a loveable animal. He is energetic and I have really enjoyed playing around with my facial expressions for this show. It was difficult at first working out how human my version of Neville would be, but we’ve found a really good mix. I can’t wait for everyone to see how we have made this play come to life.’

Come and join in the fun in this wonderful Christmas production which will truly be different every single night as it’s up to you, the audience, what happens next.

The Abbey Theatre has worked hard to ensure that it is a Covid-safe environment and has been awarded a ‘See it Safely’ mark in recognition of its efforts.
