The Importance of Being Earnest

The Importance of Being Earnest

‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ is Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy of manners with a featherlight, farcical plot that serves up some of his most famous witticisms. Come and join Algy and Jack as they invent imaginary friends that allow them to escape their normal lives to pursue love and other delights away from the disapproving glare of their relations. Algy needs to get away from his fierce aunt, Lady Bracknell, and Jack wants to escape his responsibilities for his innocent guardian Cecily….will it all end happily? We know only that there will be handbags…..

Blithe Spirit

Blithe Spirit

“I long ago came to the conclusion that nothing has ever been definitely proved about anything.” Have you ever been haunted by your past? Charles Condimine is. Somewhat more literally than most actually. The cantankerous writer and his new wife, Ruth, are dealing with the less than wanted attentions of Charles’ former (and rather late) wife Elvira. There must be a solution to this mess, surely. In walks the “happy medium” Madame Arcati. Problem solved…right?

Directed by Margaret Reading, Noel Coward’s hilarious farce hits The Blue Room stage this summer. Sarcastic ghosts, flying crockery and Coward’s famous turn of phrase will have you laughing all the way through.

Out of Order

Out of Order

When Junior Minister Richard Willey plans to spend the evening with Jane Worthington (a typist for the Opposition) things go disastrously wrong starting with the discovery of a body trapped in the hotel’s only unreliable sash window. Desperate to get out of a sticky situation, Richard calls his PPS, George Pigden, to help. Richard’s lies sink him into further trouble. Things go from bad to worse with the arrival of Ronnie, Jane’s distraught husband. The addition of an unscrupulous waiter, Mrs Willey and Nurse Foster, things really come to a head.

Award-winning, fast and furious masterful farce.  Farce is one of the most challenging genre to pull off but when it works, the audience go mad for it.  You’ll have great fun whether in the cast, backstage, or in the auditorium.

Widows Paradise

Widows Paradise

Widows’ Paradise is a three act comedy takes place in a ‘luxury’ caravan, with five ladies embarking on a ‘strictly women only’ ‘staycation’ in the tranquil Donegal countryside.

The holiday is thrown into disarray with a case of ‘mistaken caravan identity’ and the arrival of no-nonsense, alpha-male Harry. Hot on his heels is his dim-witted, side-kick Ernie and his handsome young son, Alan. Add to the mix a couple of surprise visitors in the form of Wilfred and Farmer John and what was supposed to be a scene of peace and restfulness turns into a riotous clash of the sexes, each with their own story to tell…………..

Described as ‘a piece of comedy genius’, Widows’ Paradise is ‘action-packed’ and guaranteed to have the audience on the edge of their seats and in tears of laughter until the final curtain call.

One Man, Two Guvnors

One Man, Two Guvnors

Based on Carlo Goldoni’s comedy ‘The Servant of Two Masters’ writer Richard Bean’s play is a delight. Slapstick, silliness, song and satire all come together to create this glorious celebration of British comedy.

It is 1963 and fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Holed up at the Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple?
