Kensuke’s Kingdom

Kensuke’s Kingdom

“Storms will come and storms will go, but we’ll always still be here, still alive and still afloat.”

Based on the novel by former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo (War Horse), Kensuke’s Kingdom is sure to delight the whole family.

Michael and his parents are sailing on an adventure around the world, when their yacht is caught in a violent storm. Michael and his faithful dog Stella Artois wash up on an Island, and realise they are not alone – Kensuke, a Japanese man who calls the island his ‘kingdom’, has been living there forty years. Despite initial tensions, Kensuke will teach Michael all there is to know about the island, from its beautiful inhabitants to its unwanted visitors.

This is a story about family and boundless friendship, stretching through territory, language and species.

We want our audiences to feel as safe as possible when visiting the Tower Theatre. We understand that not everyone is ready to return to full capacity in our venue so the performance on Thursday 28th October at 7.30 will be a socially-distanced performance. This means we will operate with reduced capacity, spaced seating and our FoH volunteers will continue to wear face coverings regardless of restrictions being lifted.
