We Found Love and an Exquisite Set of Porcelain Figurines Aboard the SS Farndale Avenue

We Found Love and an Exquisite Set of Porcelain Figurines Aboard the SS Farndale Avenue

Dragon Theatre Company’s June production is the wonderfully madcap ‘We Found Love and an Exquisite Set of Porcelain Figures Aboard the SS Farndale Avenue’ by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr.

The ladies of Farndale Avenue Townswomen’s Guild feature in a series of delightful plays that preceded the likes of ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ and ‘The Gone Wrong Show’, and have proved time and again that their determination will not be thwarted by the disintegration of costumes, sets and, occasionally, memory.

Flushed by their previous successes, the stalwart veterans of the Dramatic Society are poised to conquer yet another dramatic idiom: their current production sails the luxury ocean liner SS Farndale Avenue into the world of thirties musical comedy, proving that the age of elegance, glamour and enchantment may be a little creaky, but is certainly not yet dead.

Doors open at 7.30pm.

Wheelchair-friendly premises. The entrance is opposite the Co-Op supermarket in Moray Way, RM1 4YD.

Tickets: £10 & £8.

Just So

Just So

Five of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories come together into a wondrous tale of personal courage, individuality and friendship. Set to an eclectic, upbeat score, Kipling’s famous tales are woven with wit and imagination into a song-filled journey through the jungle.

Join us on this journey with the young, effervescent and inquisitive Elephant’s Child and the sassy, sarcastic and flightless Kolokolo Bird as they set out to save their friends and family from the wicked Pau Amma who is threatening their homeland.

On our journey through this magical tale, we’ll meet a wide array of fun loving characters, from a Kangaroo who is shocked to see the rate at which his legs have grown, to a Parsee Man who lives seemingly alone with his seemingly inanimate stove…

Let the Eldest Magician take you on this wondrous tale through lush jungles, dusty savannahs and the ever looming great, grey and greasy Limpopo River in Just So this March.

Spamalot

Spamalot

SPAMALOT retells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail.

The 2005 Broadway production was nominated for fourteen Tony Awards of which it won three including Best Musical and was followed by two successful West End runs.

Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the holy Grail, SPAMALOT features shenanigans including a chorus line of dancing divas, legless knights, men in tights, killer rabbits and a flatulent Frenchman.

Throughout the show Arthur, travelling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad. Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight and the Knights who say Ni.

After arriving in Las Vegas-inspired Camelot, the knights are contacted by the voice of God who wants them to search for the Holy Grail., After some silly encounters and surprising discoveries, Arthur and the knights end up finding the Grail in an unexpected place.

Sister Act

Sister Act

Sister Act is a joyous show that uses music to bring different communities, and lifestyles, together.

Deloris Van Cartier is an aspiring singer in Philadelphia, where she is auditioning to perform at her gangster boyfriend’s nightclub. Deloris believes that Curtis is going to introduce her to a big producer, but is upset when he tells her she is not ready. Hurt and rejected, Deloris decides to break up with him, but when she goes to find him she accidentally sees him kill one of his cronies. Deloris runs to the police, who place her in hiding at a convent until Curtis is brought to trial.

At first, Deloris feels as though it will be the worst thing in the world, chafing against the constraints of convent life and an immovable Reverend Mother, but once she is introduced to the struggling choir at the convent, everything changes. She finds that many of the nuns at the convent are not that different from her, and that they are quite fun to be around. They help give her a bigger purpose in her life, showing her a genuine love and affection that was missing prior to her arrival at the convent.

My Fair Lady

Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady is one of the best-loved musicals of all time. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, Elisa Doolittle’s journey at the hands of Henry Higgins from flower girl to society lady has been enjoyed world-wide since the 1950s when it was first performed, both on stage and as a successful movie.

Brimming with familiar songs, such as Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, With A Little Bit of Luck and I Could Have Danced All Night, exciting dance routines and a witty script, this entertaining musical will delight audiences, both young and old.

Synopsis

Professor Henry Higgins, a pompous scholar of phonetics, takes up a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can transform the cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady within six months and pass her off as a duchess at the Embassy Ball.

Despite distractions from Eliza’s father, Alfred P. Doolittle; a young suitor, Freddy Eynsford-Hill; and an unfortunate episode at the races, Higgins successfully presents Eliza to society as promised.

But what of Eliza? Is she happy to be plucked from the gutter and paraded around as a lady by the unfeeling Higgins? What will become of her after the experiment is ended? …

Titanic: The Musical

Titanic: The Musical

Story and Book by Peter Stone
Music and Lyrics by Maury Yeston

Epic and yet intimate, Titanic: The Musical captures the triumph and tragedy of the hopeful passengers on the ill-fated Ship of Dreams

In the final hours of 14 April 1912 the RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, collided with an iceberg and sank. As “the unsinkable ship” went down, 1517 men, women and children lost their lives.

Based on real people, Titanic: The Musical is a stunning and heart-breaking production focusing on the dreams and aspirations of the passengers, who boarded to take the trip of their lives, unaware that for many it would be their last journey.

The Third Class immigrants dream of a better life in America, the Second Class imagine they too can join the lifestyles of the rich and famous, while the millionaire Barons of the First Class anticipate legacies lasting forever.

The original Broadway production won five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.
