Alone, desolate and without a friend, Larry the Loner is cast away on a desert island. Or at least that’s what he thinks …
All By Myself and All By Themselves are two consecutive comedies that are full of sun, sand, sea and silliness as Larry discovers that there’s more to the island than first meets the eye. The ensuing plot involves the 3Rs – rafts, rocks and really funny jokes – and could that be a treasure map?
Breakaway Theatre Company is excited to bring Robert Scott’s shows to the Inn on the Park, St Albans. As we dish up the drama outdoors, the Inn will be serving up hot and cold refreshments to wash down the comedy.
We are delighted to announce that this summer the Cotswold Arcadians will be presenting The Tempest by William Shakespeare. This will be directed by Jonathan Vickers and performed at Hatherop Castle from Monday 19 to Saturday 24 July – one innovation this year will be that we’ll be performing a Saturday matinee, with a special price for families: it will be great if that means that we can introduce more children to the fun and magic of Shakespeare.
Probably Shakespeare’s last play, The Tempest is, for many, his finest achievement. Alive with music, bursting with action, peppered with comedy, and suffused with mystery and magic, it brings together themes of love, revenge, forgiveness and redemption. A climactic finale to the work of our greatest playwright.
The play is uniquely suited to the Arcadians. Set entirely outdoors, and playing less than two hours, it brings us some of the bard’s most enthralling characters and some of his most beautiful language. The perfect entertainment for a warm summer’s evening at Hatherop Castle. A treat to look forward to!

DADS will be performing Philip Dart’s enthralling adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s enduring classic The Wind in the Willows from 22nd to 24th July. This play should delight audience members of all ages.
Shakespeare In Love And War will be performed in the open air courtyard of The George, from Tuesday 22 June to Saturday 3 July 2021, operating at a significantly reduced capacity with socially distanced seating and a smaller cast than usual.
A reduced production, specifically created for these challenging Covid times, called Shakespeare in Love and War. This is a one-act play exploring the two sides of the human heart vividly brought to life by the world’s greatest playwright and a cast of the most memorable characters ever to set foot on stage.
Audiences will feast on the lecherous Falstaff or the star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet; raise their patriotic spirits in the company of Henry V; delight in the knock-about comedy of Petruchio and his Kate; share the downfall of King Lear or the wonderful wit of Beatrice and Benedick. And although we had to cancel Twelfth Night, there is also a little taster of what might have been as the outrageous Malvolia trips over her own vanity.
All of these are skilfully woven, by director Richard Brown, into a tale of Love and War, staged in a novel way which respects all of the safety requirements and restrictions due to coronavirus.
Cast, playing various roles, in order of appearance: Reuben Milne, Maggie Redgrave, Ashton Cull, Jordan White, Georgie Bickerdike, Simon Maylor, Charlotte Maylor, Lynne Livingstone, James Barwise, Becky Gilbert and Ryan Coetsee.
