An Evening with Saki – Bell House and Dulwich Players at the Dulwich Festival

A selection of Saki’s stories of madly eccentric upper-class Edwardians are dramatised in readings in the perfect setting of Bell House.

Sometimes silly, sometimes downright mad, the sparklingly eccentric characters of H. H. Munro (aka Saki) are sure to entertain and amuse. Although Munro himself was in many ways a tragic figure, his alter ego is the creator of Clovis, the witty and urbane commentator on Edwardian England.

An Evening with Rudyard Kipling – Bell House and Dulwich Players at the Dulwich Festival

An evening of readings from the works of Rudyard Kipling, much-loved poet, journalist and author of the Jungle Book and If, voted the nation’s favourite poem.

This Mr Kipling wrote exceedingly good stories, ballads and poems. Although his reputation and standing in the world of literature are not as high as they once were, we hope our selection of his works will entertain you with amusing Just So stories, beautifully crafted tales and poignant poems.

No Turn Unstoned – Music Hall meets Variety

Our special Music Hall meets Variety show, No Turn Unstoned* takes place on the 14 and 15 October, as part of the Streatham Festival, at Immanuel and St. Andrew’s Hall, on Streatham High Road opposite the Common. There are three shows: a 7.30pm evening show on Friday, 14 October and a 2.30pm afternoon matinee; a 7.30pm evening show will take place  on Saturday, 15 October. Doors and bar open 30 minutes prior.

Music Hall started out in Victorian times in pubs, so we’re re-creating an old-fashioned pub-style atmosphere, with Mine Host directing proceedings, and of course a licensed bar and snacks available. Come in costume and enter the best costume competition!

There’ll be community singing around the piano plus lots of ‘turns’, singers of comic songs, comedians, dancers, and magicians, following the style of acts from the 1880s to the 1950s.

* the title is derived from the Glasgow music hall where unpopular turns received a violent response!
