History: WWOS (West Wickham Operatic Society) was founded in 1935 and productions were first mounted at a hall in nearby Beckenham. Activities were stopped by the outbreak of hostilities in 1939 but started again in 1944 at a hall in West Wickham. In 1966, in search of a larger stage, productions were moved to a newly built hall in Beckenham and the repertoire was broadened from predominantly G&S/English musical comedy to include operettas by Strauss, Offenbach and Lehár. By the mid-1970s it was becoming increasingly difficult to finance productions from the limited ticket income at the hall but fortunately in 1978 WWOS was able to move into Bromley’s newly opened 780-seat Churchill Theatre and since 1987 the repertoire has become mainly modern musicals. In the mid-1990s occasional Olde Tyme Music Halls were presented to help local organisations’ fund raising, but what started as a modest “fun” event has grown into a major activity. The Music Hall Troupe now perform under the title 'Wickham’s Wandering Oldetyme Stagers' (WWOS again!), has regular bookings at local professional theatres and makes summer tours throughout the South East.
