FEES AND FUN?

During the summer we received an email from a disgruntled theatre-maker who was feeling hard done by when it comes to the fees associated with amateur performance licensing.
The target was one of the biggest licensing companies and one that arguably controls the distribution of the largest number of performing contracts available to the non-professional theatre sector.
That company (I hear you ask) is Concord Theatricals and is responsible for Samuel French, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Tams-Witmark titles as well as a host of specially edited shows made available for younger performers.
As a neutral magazine for the amateur theatre arena we felt it was important to let people know what was being said, so we included the news in our YouTube videos.
The result was a plethora of further emails, some from supporters of the original message and some from various licensing companies... including Concord Theatricals themselves.
