Theatres across the UK closed without warning on 16 March, 2020, following the government's advice to avoid gathering in public buildings. The blow on amateur and professional theatres in the UK was, to put it politely, catastrophic: Professional ticket sales (that’s all we could get, sorry) fell by 93% between 17 March and 22 April 2020, resulting in a 91% drop in revenue. 15,000 lost performances in the following three months meant that at least 7.8 million people missed out on seeing their show.Continue reading
