MUSICALS, MARIGOLDS and… REMEMBER, WE’RE JUST GOOD FRIENDS
Paul Nicholas is a unique performer. Without any formal training he starred in the original West End casts of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and Cats. He also performed in the first London production of Grease, taking over the role of Danny from Richard Gere. The girl playing Sandy was called Elaine Paige. As well as various film roles such as in The Who’s iconic rock opera, Tommy, on television he became a firm favourite as Vincent Pinner playing opposite Jan Francis for three years in John Sullivan’s Just Good Friends on BBC1. Years later, he recently appeared in EastEnders as evil Gavin Sullivan – Kathy Beale’s ex and Sharon’s father! Paul also became a star of the second series of the BBC’s Real Marigold Hotel where he traveled to India, Thailand and Iceland as well as Argentina and Mexico later. Paul Nicholas can even add pop star to his long list of achievements, chalking up hits in the mid-70s with numbers such as Dancing with the Captain and Grandma’s Party.
