The day I’m sitting to write this column happens to be the hottest of the year so far. I cycle into work across London along the Regent’s Canal, and it’s lovely to see how the onset of summer brings people together. Finally, we’re able to meet outside for a drink or an ice cream, kick off sandals and feel some grass between our toes. With that backdrop, it’s perhaps no surprise that my thoughts have turned to outdoor theatre, and how it’s a great opportunity for amateur companies to consider. If this is something you and your group have given a go in the past, you’ll be familiar with what this entails – but if you’re yet to take this step, I thought it might be worth exploring the exciting benefits (and potential challenges) of taking a show outside in your next summer season.
