YOUR NEWS – ‘Break a Leg’ and other Mishaps

I was interested to read the article in the latest edition of Sardines (no.56) about Jenny Landreth’s book, Break a Leg. Of course, all amateur drama groups have their share of mishaps, otherwise Michael Green wouldn’t have written his book on The Art of Coarse Acting. Certainly, the various productions that I’ve been involved with have had their share. We have had props disappear on opening night, as a local charity collected them thinking they were for their jumble sale. The fish prop used in Spring and Port Wine, was thrown away during performance by an over zealous props person. It was retrieved from the waste bin, flattened, ripped and covered with raffle tickets. Meanwhile, the actors on stage waiting for the fish had to adlib until it turned up.Continue reading
